what's the best way to learn/teach yourself how to surf?
if you learn to skate first it really helps with your balance. but just get yourself a longer board and try catching white water first to just get used to catching waves. once you can catch waves try standing up, dont be too far forward or youll nose dive. then once you can stand up you can try surfing real waves
i started surfing last summer but can only do it for like 1 week a year (i don't live close the coast). will i ever be able to ride a shortboard?
you just have to keep at it. the worst thing you can do is go to a shortboard when youre not ready cus then you wont be catchin waves. if you just do whatever you can to get out there and you find a board that will work for you then yeah
Hey, I messed up my knees a couple years ago (smashed into a pier... moment of stupidity) and now my knees hurt too much to get out there anymore, any ideas to help with the pain?
swimming is one of the best things you can do cus it puts no pressure on your joints, its a great workout and youre still in the water. also you can bodysurf or bodyboard cus thats like the next best thing. anything to just be in the water. hope this helps :)

so, i got a surf blog, nobody knows about it, it's just mine... the thing is i don't surf, but i watch the competitions, and i live in the middle of a city, not near the beach. surfing has always been my dream, and i've always loved the beach, i think i just haven't had my opportunity yet. my room is full of beach pics and kind of, and i can be a poser, but i think i'm just trying to follow my dream :)

Dear owner of this blog, youre posts have shown me its okay not to be a perfect surfer, you're posts have inspired me to work a bit harder, to go for the biggest waves, and that if I fall to get back on my board and try it again, you've shown me that a true surfer has real passion, and you don't have to love by the beach to love surfing. Just try to get out there as much as you can and if your parents cant take you try to find somebody who drives. It really helps when youve got a surfing buddy:)
are you considered a poser if you have never lived by the ocean but you surf as often as you can and are super passionate, and kind of make up for it by watching live streaming occasionally? sorry.. just curious!
a poser is not someone who cant surf/isnt good at surfing. a poser is someone who cant surf/isnt good and all they talk about is how much they love surfing (when they dont) or how good they are (when theyre not) and they dont know anything about it. so no you are not a poser :)

I've been surfing for about six months and I go twice every month, which is as much as possible since I live about 2 hours from the ocean. I can honestly say I have never felt so passionate about something in my life. Surfing cures everything for me. There's no feeling in the world than the feeling one gets while riding a long waves. Even though I'm not good at it, surfing brings life to me. Am I considered a poser if I'm not good at it?
nope. as long as your not like telling everybody that youre like a really good surfer and youre not cocky then of course youre not a poser

ive never lived anywhere that wasnt in walking/biking distance to the beach and i couldnt even imagine living anywhere else!

Towing the board so your little brother can stand on it and pretend he's surfing when the water's particularly flat is the third most noble thing to do in life. Carrying him and all his and your stuff so his feet don't get burned is the second most noble thing a man can do.

Hey, I'm 15 and tried surfing for the first time yesterday, but I couldn't even stand up and my board kept going down nose first. Will the other surfers out there laugh at me? Do they mind learners? xo
you just have to be farther back on your board and then you wont nose dive. and of course theres gonna be some people who wont want you around. but just go to a place where the waves are relaxed and its more of a friendly break and youll be fine:)
